Mario Šekerija, MD, PhD - EDITOR IN CHIEF

Mario Šekerija is an epidemiologist employed at the Croatian Institute of Public Health as the head of the Croatian National Cancer Registry. He is also an associate professor at the Andrija Štampar School of Public Health, University of Zagreb School of Medicine, where he obtained his PhD in 2013 and his MD in 2006. His work is focused on the epidemiology of cancer and the use of high-quality population data to improve public health and health care.
Alongside his research and professional activities, he teaches epidemiology and research methodology to medical students, striving to make scientific methods accessible, useful, and relevant to future health professionals.
In his free time, he tries to separate his professional identity from his personal life, including reading a good book and making time for his family and friends.
He was appointed editor-in-chief of the Croatian Medical Journal in May 2026.

 

Hrvoje Barić, MD, PhD - DEPUTY EDITOR IN CHIEF

Hrvoje Barić, MD, PhD, is a resident at the Department of Neurosurgery, University Hospital Center Zagreb. Since graduating in 2012, he has performed different roles in the CMJ, the last one being an executive editor. In paralel he has been cultivating his clinical skills - first as an emergency medicine doctor, then a neurosurgical resident. He is married and a father of two. In free time, he pursues multiple interests, such as art, music, long-distance running, and climbing.
